Tenner Trio Contest

22 December 2009

It's midnight here, and you know what this means. It's the official debut for Jackie Dolamore, Bree Despain and Lindsay Eland! And a few other authors too, so happy release day to them too. Let's find out more about The Dark Divine, Scones and Sensibility and Magic Under Glass.

The Dark Divine by Bree Despain
Buy at: Book Depository | Amazon
Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel's dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

Scones and Sensibility by Lindsay Eland

Polly Madassa is convinced she was born for a more romantic time. A time when Elizabeth Bennet and Anne of Green Gables walked along the moors and beaches of the beautiful land, a time where a distinguished gentleman called upon a lady of quality and true love was born in the locked eyes of two young lovers.

But alas, she was not.

This, however, does not stop our young heroine from finding romance wherever she can conjure it up. So while Polly is burdened with a summer job of delivering baked goods from her parents bakery (how quaint!) to the people in her small beach town, she finds a way to force…um…encourage romance to blossom. She is determined to bring lovers, young and old, together…whether they want to be or not.

Magic Under Glass by Jackie Dolamore
Buy at: Book Depository | Amazon
Nimira is a music-hall performer forced to dance for pennies to an audience of leering drunks. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to do a special act - singing accompaniment to an exquisite piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new life. In Parry's world, however, buried secrets stir. Unsettling below-stairs rumours abound about ghosts, a mad woman roaming the halls, and of Parry's involvement in a gang of ruthless sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing young fairy gentleman is trapped inside the automaton's stiff limbs, waiting for someone to break the curse and set him free, the two fall in love. But it is a love set against a dreadful race against time to save the entire fairy realm, which is in mortal peril.

Don't you just feel like buying those books RIGHT NAO? Well, you can! To celebrate this very speshul day, the authors have very kindly offered some goodies up for grabs! Open to US/Canada.

Bree Despain is offering The Dark Divine bookmarks and sticker.

Lindsay Eland is giving away a signed copy of Scones and Sensibility and a lace handkerchief. Now you too can feel just like Polly when she reads a Jane Austen book.

Jackie Dolamore has offered a gently used signed copy of Magic Under Glass, a sketch and a bookmark to one lucky reader.

This is a present from Jackie, a sneak peak behind the scenes of Magic Under Glass. Here's what she has to say:

Magic Under Glass went through a lot of changes through many rewrites. Originally, Erris was not a clockwork man and not the love interest. The clockwork man was named Roman and he was not trapped behind a piano -- he was just a normal looking dude who happened to have a keyhole in his back and an inconvenient origin. Erris, on the other hand, was the foppish ghost of a human, not a fairy, and Nimira did not start out a singer in Hollin's employ, but as a slave in a the house of a superstitious rich woman named Mrs. Swanney. Here is the original first appearance of Erris!!

The ghost stopped, two paces into the room, and watched me. Every moment, he looked more solid, if a little washed-out. Dark hair framed a thin, drawn face, with a little stubble on the chin. His doleful, heavy-lidded eyes regarded me, and then I thought I heard him sigh. He crossed the room to a chest of drawers, drew a silver cigarette case from a pocket, snapped it open, inserted a stick between his lips, and struck a match.

A moment later, the scent of tobacco reached my side of the room.

You learn something new about ghosts every day.

“Well,” he said. “Aren’t you going to scream, or something of that nature?” His voice had a foreign lilt.

I couldn’t think of a response.

He sank into an armchair by the fire, not far away from me, now. “Have you been crying?”

I wiped my eyes again. “Yes.” I saw no reason to withhold this information from a ghost.

“Ahhh.” He sucked on the cigarette. “Are you in love?”

“No!” My brow furrowed. “Just stuck in this awful place.”

Before he offered a response, I heard two sets of footsteps coming down the hall, and then Bridgeman’s voice. “Show yourself, spirit!”

“No!” I heard Mrs. Swanney hiss. “I don’t want it to show itself, for God’s sake, I want it to go away!”

“You have to talk to ghosts, first, before they’ll go away. Common knowledge.”

I realized how bad it would look if I was sitting here while a ghost occupied the armchair with a cigarette. “You have to go!” I whispered.

“But I’ve only just sat down.”

“They think I’m telling you to attack them! If they see me here with—“

“Very well,” he cut me off. “Go on, back to work.”

I turned to the fire, and when I looked back, he was gone. I twisted my face into a frightened visage, and when Bridgeman and Mrs. Swanney opened the door, I gasped with feigned relief.
