Update (As of February 9, 2012)

Hi everyone! Things have been a wee bit hectic with prelims coming soon. I've read loads of books meanwhile, and hope to post more reviews soon rather than leaving them in Draftsland. Thanks for all your support and encouragement. Authors/publicists: I'm currently not accepting any review requests as stated in the updated policy, but I do so appreciate that you consider this blog a worthy avenue for your books.

Things I Wish Book Covers Didn't Do

Thoughts: Oh wow! That cover is gorg- Fuck that blurb. Oh no, two blurbs. Perfect.

Thoughts: Interesting. Yeah, I pretty much read the whole book.

Thoughts: What, what, what is this book about? Sucks that it's still in its plastic wrapping.
*puts down*

Fun fact: Those are just three books out of ten that I randomly picked up off my table. And there are four more books out of that same ten where an excerpt is used.

I agree with these three, and would like to add the always awful no excerpt or blurb on the back. (With the excerpt, at least, you know if you like the writing.) Sometimes this one is combined with just a quote on the back.

But I must admit, I don't remember the back of WHITE CAT giving much away.

Completely agree on all three! Hate when awesome front cover images are covered up by blurbs. On the back cover, I want to know what the book is about. if I'm still interested I will open the book up to read an excerpt; I don't need someone to select one for me.
